Choosing a Partner in Parenting
Deciding where to send your child for the summer is a major decision. You aren't just looking for a babysitter; you are looking for a second home. With over 25 years of experience, we know what parents should look for. Here is our advice on finding the perfect fit:
-
Meet the Leadership: Always take a tour. Don’t just look at the fields; talk to the owners. Experience matters. A camp Director should make you feel welcomed, heard, and confident. If you don't feel that "family" connection immediately, trust your gut.
-
Prioritize Safety & Privacy: Ask about the facility's security. Is it open to the public? At Our Kids, our 113 acres are private—no public roads, no outsiders, and no cut-through traffic. When camp is in session, the property belongs to the campers alone.
-
Check the Medical Support: Every child is unique. Whether your child has allergies or specific medical needs, ask how the camp handles them. A professional camp should have qualified medical staff on-site and an open line of communication to ensure your child stays safe and healthy.
-
Ask About the Staff: Camp is a community. Ask how staff is trained and if they participate in the activities with the campers. Great counselors don't just supervise; they engage.
